Shoe box done!

I left you on tenterhooks waiting for the dovetails; I have been a lazy woodwork blogger but productive as hell in other fields, so forgive me.
The box was finished on time, and delivered to my Mum when my folks visited last month. The stages of production were:
Planning the pattern of the dovetails. I spent a silly amount of time playing around with this.

Then, mark and cut them:

 Laying out the tails:

Sawing:
Chopping out the waste:

Using the tails to mark the pins:

Done!

Then fitting the base. I cut it to size, then cleaned it up and polished it, as it would be easier to do before assembly. It had a lot of iron staining, so needed a dose of oxalic acid.

This miraculously restores colour, so much so that I had to shoot a video:

 Then a coat of polish:

Once that was done, I had to cut and fit the internal dividers, which was tricky as the wood was so thin, and the smaller compartment had such a large cutout.

To make the cutout I supported the open end by clamping it between blocks to complete the sawing (done with a coping saw).
Like a great big eejit I then decided to go ahead with the glue up without a proper full assembly to check fit. This lead to disaster, as the smaller divider was a touch long, and I had to break the bax open again half way through the glue up. This also broke the cutout section of the longer divider. Bugger. But after much restoration magic, the job was done. Note the glue blocks to support the little housing joints:
So then a trim up of the outside:

And a spot of polish:

And it was finished. Here it is at work in its new home:

I'm sure you have an opinion: do share!
