Shoe box 3

This morning's meeting got shifted to Monday so I spent the time in the shed. Much progress was made!
First, I finished thicknessing the parts:

Which required touching up the plane iron. To polish the flat on my 8000grit waterstone I use a variation on David Charlesworth's ruler trick. My shed does not abound with unneeded precision instruments so I use a strip of plastic. This concentrates the polishing at the edge, so no need to buff the entire flat.

The base needs a slot to sit in, so out with the router and some odd clamping solutions. First a bit of scrap to check the fit:
Then turning this:

The dividers need slotting in also, so more routy goodness:

And some planing and cutting to get to this:
Next up, mark and cut the dovetails that will hold it all together. That's the fun bit!

I'm sure you have an opinion: do share!
